Douglas Cohen

As a professional leadership and coaching consultant, Douglas has over 20 years experience helping organizations incorporate better business practices into the daily workplace. Well versed in the corporate, not-for-profit and public sectors, Douglas brings a refreshing, focused style to his teachings that enables more work to get done faster.

Douglas has coached both individuals and executive teams for corporate clients such as Amdocs, Shell Chemical, AT&T, GTE, US West, Arthur Andersen, Prudential, Bayer, BOC Gases, Molson Breweries and ABB.

Douglas consults with organizations based on a fundamental belief: Through great leadership, it is possible to shape the character and quality of each interaction, both in the workplace and in the customer community.

Douglas’s acumen for transferring corporate business practices into social service cultures has made him a sought-after coach on the non-profit front. Specifically, he has consulted for boards and coached the founding principals for organizations such as Comp2Kids, Pop Sustainability and UrbanMentor. Douglas’s most robust work with this sector has been with both the California and the New York foster care system — where he’s logged over 200 hours improving individual leadership and contributing to system reform nationwide. During one initiative, he provided training and development for foster parent volunteers who needed new skills to effectively lead neighborhood support groups.

Douglas consults with organizations based on a fundamental belief: Through great leadership, it is possible to shape the character and quality of each interaction, both in the workplace and in the customer community. His signature Leadership For Team Performance programs have been widely embraced by corporations and institutions looking to build performance-driven cultures. Here, he equips managers and team leaders with skills to transform the meetings they conduct and the change efforts they manage — so business can move smoothly and swiftly. His teachings are typically a wake-up call to these leaders regarding their capacity to manage complexity while implementing strategy and change. Whether it’s improving the communication skills of IT project managers faced with a national implementation or teaching senior executives to better work together across three continents following an acquisition, Douglas’s expertise spans multiple departments and timetables.

Douglas earned his Masters in Applied Behavioral Science from The Leadership Institute and holds an undergraduate degree in psychology from The Evergreen State College. He is also a member of the Organization Development Network of Greater New York and the New Jersey Organization Development Learning Community.

When Douglas isn’t working, he can be found kayaking through the waters off of Vancouver Island, in the lakes of the Adirondacks or in The Outer Banks. He lives in Maplewood, New Jersey, with his wife and two children.
